Ankara, July 8: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned that the United States could launch another round of military strikes against Iran, hours after declaring that the ceasefire arrangement with Tehran was effectively over.

Speaking ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the 2026 NATO Summit in Ankara, Trump said the US had already struck Iran "very hard" and suggested further action could follow soon.

"We hit them very hard last night, and very probably hit them hard again tonight," Trump said, adding that Iran was no longer "the bully of the Middle East."

Trump also accused Iran's leadership of repeatedly changing its position during negotiations. He alleged that Iranian officials privately agreed to proposals before publicly denying the talks, calling their conduct erratic and saying there was "something wrong with these people."

When asked whether more military action was imminent, Trump replied that further strikes were "probably" under consideration, saying Iran had little ability to respond.

Earlier in the day, Trump declared that he no longer wished to pursue diplomatic engagement with Tehran, saying the ceasefire process had run its course.

"As far as I'm concerned, it's just a waste of time dealing with them," he said, while adding that any future negotiations would have to come through US negotiators.

Meanwhile, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces had carried out a fresh wave of strikes on more than 80 targets in Iran. According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted air defence systems, command-and-control infrastructure, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities and over 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) small boats operating near the Strait of Hormuz.

The US said the strikes were in retaliation for recent Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the strategic waterway—the Marshall Islands-flaggedM/T Al Rekayyat, the Saudi Arabia-flaggedM/T Wedyan, and the Liberian-flaggedM/T Cyprus Prosperity.

CENTCOM described the attacks on commercial shipping as a violation of the ceasefire and said US forces remained prepared to respond if Iran failed to honour the agreement.

Iran, however, strongly condemned the US action. Parliament Speaker and senior negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused Washington of violating multiple provisions of a 14-point memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities in West Asia. In a post on X, he alleged that the US had repeatedly breached its commitments, signalling a sharp deterioration in relations between the two countries.
