PUCC must for vehicles: Orissa High Court seeks report from STA

Cuttack, Jan 6: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday sought report from the Odisha Transport Authorities in connection with issuance of Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC), of vehicles.

Hearing a petition filed by a vehicle owner, the High Court issued a notice to the Odisha government regarding a public interest matter related to the PUCC compliance, that has been mandatory for all vehicles.

The court has directed the Transport Commissioner to provide a detailed report within two weeks.

According to the petition, the petitioner has sought intervention of the Orissa High Court over the norms,’No clearance of pending dues & pending challans, No fuel to the concerned vehicle’.

The next date of hearing for the case has been scheduled after three weeks, said the order.

Advocate Ranjan Kumar Rout, prosecutor for the petitioner said, a PIL was filed regarding a dispute relating to PUCC as the government’s resolve violates someone’s fundamental rights.

He also pleaded that the recent PUCC norms also violate the provisions envisaged in Sub-Clause 190 of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019.

Notices have been issued to the Odisha Government and State Transport Commissioner, Rout added.
