Balasore, March 19: Authorities have issued a cautionary advisory for fishermen in coastal areas of Udaypur, Talsari, Ranasinghpur, and Kirtania ahead of the upcoming “Sagar Kavach” naval exercise.

The advisory applies to all fishermen, boat owners, members of fishermen societies, and the general public.

Officials said the two-day exercise will be conducted in the sea on March 24 and 25. In view of this, fishermen have been directed to strictly follow safety and identification protocols before venturing into the sea.

As per the guidelines, boats must be painted in red and black with clearly visible names and registration numbers. Fishermen have been asked to carry all necessary documents, including QR-based Aadhaar cards, and ensure that the Indian national flag is displayed on their vessels.

Safety equipment such as life buoys, life jackets, fire extinguishers, and Distress Alert Transmitter (DAT) devices have been made mandatory.

Authorities have also urged fishermen to report any suspicious persons or unidentified boats to the nearest fisheries officials, marine police, or fishermen society representatives.

Officials stressed that adherence to these measures is essential to ensure the safety of life and livelihood. Strict action will be taken against violators.
