Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has welcomed the recently concluded India–US trade agreement, saying it will position Odisha as a significant player in the global semiconductor supply chain while strengthening the state’s traditional industries.

In a post on social media, the Chief Minister said the agreement would harness Odisha’s abundant rare-earth mineral resources, paving the way for the state to emerge as a centre for advanced technology and innovation.

“India–US tech partnership puts Odisha on the global semiconductor map. With rising demand for our rare-earth minerals, we’ll become a hub for cutting-edge technology and innovation. This deal connects Odisha’s mineral wealth to global tech,” Majhi wrote.

“The new trade agreement between India and the United States will give Odisha’s marine food economy a new identity. With the reduction in duties, demand for Odisha’s prawns, fish, and other seafood in the US market will increase. This will not only raise the income of fishermen and farmers in our coastal regions but also transform Odisha into a major hub of the blue economy,” the CM said.

The Chief Minister highlighted the agreement’s potential impact on Odisha’s handloom and textile sector. He noted that the reduction of trade duties would boost exports and generate new employment opportunities for weavers and artisans.

Majhi also expressed confidence that Odisha’s traditional attire would gain international recognition and set new global fashion trends.

The India–US trade agreement is expected to open fresh avenues for Odisha’s economic growth by linking its mineral wealth with global technology leaders while showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage on the world stage.
