Balangir, Sept. 19: A taxi driver in Odisha’s Balngir district was held on Tuesday on the charges of wreaking panic on NH with a fake pistol.
The accused has been identified as Raju Majhi who operates a private vehicle, owned by one Bibekananda Pati, police sources said.
As per reports, Raju Majhi entered the Rameswar Garden Hotel at Gaintala and panicked the hotel staff with an air pistol. He also vandalized furniture and other assets of the hotel throwing them here and there. Subsequently, he came to the NH and threatened a Bolero driver to stop the vehicle and tried it to hijack, pointing the fake pistol and firing blank air-shots at him.
Being informed, armed police forces led by SDPO Toofan Bag rushed to the spot and intercepted the driver in an inebriated condition.
The accused taxi driver was apprehended from the spot. The fake pistol has been seized from his possession.
An investigation has been initiated in this connection to ascertain the modus operandi of the accused and his two accomplices, present on the spot who are on the run, said SDPO Toofan Bag.
