Bhubaneswar, August 26: The Film Journalists’ Forum (FJF) organized the 23rd edition of its annual Smrutichhaya programme at Jayadev Bhavan, featuring the restored 1980 Odia classic ‘Tapasya’, produced by Prashanti Pictures.

After 46 years, audiences had the opportunity to watch the black-and-white film once again on the big screen. The restored 117-minute film drew an enthusiastic response, taking viewers back to the era of its original release. The performances of veteran artistes including Sarat Pujari, Anita Das, Uttam Mohanty and Deepa Sahu were widely appreciated.

The film’s story, music and distinctive filmmaking style also attracted several personalities from the Odia film industry. The audience remained engaged throughout the screening.

As part of the programme, a booklet on ‘Tapasya’ was released and cine personalities associated with the film, along with family members of some of the artistes, were felicitated. They shared their memories and recounted several lesser-known stories associated with the making of the film.

The programme also paid tribute to renowned musician Pranab Kishore Pattnaik. A one-minute silent prayer was observed in his memory, followed by a five-minute audio-visual presentation showcasing his contributions.

The event began with a floral tribute to Mohan Sundar Dev Goswami, regarded as the father of Odia cinema, followed by the Forum’s signature song, Sita Bibaha Geeta.

Odia Virtual Academy Secretary Dr Pradip Kumar Rout and Odisha Film Development Corporation Managing Director Surendra Kumar Panda attended the programme as guests. FJF member Minati Singh delivered the welcome address, while Forum chief Surya Deo spoke on Tapasya. Amitabh Khilar proposed the vote of thanks.

A trailer of Pinki Pradhan’s State Film Award-winning short film Anubhav, produced by Pink Wood Creations and Prakash Films, was also screened. Actor Choudhury Jayaprakash and other members of the film’s team were present. Pinki Pradhan spoke about the film during the event.
