Chennai, June 16: In a significant development, Tamil Nadu Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) HM Jayaram was arrested on Monday for his alleged role in the abduction of a 17-year-old boy. The arrest follows a directive from the Madras High Court, which took serious cognizance of the incident.

Alongside this, the court has also ordered Kilvaithinakuppam MLA Poovai Jagan Moorthy to extend full cooperation with the investigation. Moorthy, who was elected in 2021 from the reserved constituency in Vellore district, had contested the elections under the AIADMK symbol as a candidate of the Puratchi Bharatham party.

Justice P Velmurugan of the Madras High Court summoned both Jayaram and Jagan Moorthy to appear before the bench earlier today. The court had cautioned that failure to appear would lead to their arrest by the Tiruvalangadu police in Tiruvallur district.

The directive came during the hearing of an anticipatory bail plea filed by MLA Moorthy about the ongoing investigation into the alleged abduction.
