Talchua Marine Police IIC suspended over custodial torture allegations​​​​​​​

Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania has placed Sandhyarani Jena, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Talchua Marine Police Station in Kendrapara district, under immediate suspension.

Talchua Marine Police IIC suspended over custodial torture allegations​​​​​​​

Kendrapara, May 28: Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania has placed Sandhyarani Jena, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Talchua Marine Police Station in Kendrapara district, under immediate suspension.

The action was taken just hours after serious allegations of custodial torture emerged against officials of the Talchua Marine Police Station. A mother and her son alleged that they had been summoned to the police station, where they were subjected to third-degree torture and physical assault by police personnel.

According to the official order, Sandhyarani Jena has been suspended on charges of gross misconduct and dereliction of duty. A formal disciplinary proceeding is also being initiated against her.

During the suspension period, she will remain under the disciplinary control of the Inspector General (IG) of Police, Central Range, Cuttack.

The Superintendent of Police (SP), Kendrapara, has been directed to serve the suspension order and submit draft charges along with supporting evidence for further disciplinary action.
