Toor wins silver in shot put
Tajinderpal Singh Toor captured the silver medal in the men's shot put final on Saturday at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. He achieved his best throw of 20.64 metres on his fifth attempt. Mohammadreza Tayebise from Iran took first place with a Games Record distance of 20.81 metres. This silver medal adds to Toor's established record at this event. He previously won gold medals at the 2018 Jakarta games and the 2022 Hangzhou games.
India staged an impressive second-half recovery to defeat Iran 40-34 and win the men's kabaddi gold medal. The Indian side fell behind 17-18 at halftime but returned with strong momentum after the break. They took control of the match and secured a decisive victory. India has consistently built its regional sporting dominance across both track disciplines and traditional strength sports over the last decade.
Several Indian runners also moved forward in their respective track events. Animesh Kujur qualified for the men's 200m final by finishing second in his semifinal race. He clocked a time of 20.81 seconds. Thailand's Puripol Boonson won that race with a Games Record time of 20.10 seconds. Kujur recovered well after missing out on the 100m final earlier in the week. Two Indian runners secured spots in the upcoming men's 1500m final. Gulveer Singh finished third in his heat with a time of 3:45.79. Yoonus Shah also took third place in his respective heat, crossing the line in 3:45.77. Both athletes will race for medals in the final event scheduled in two days.
