Bolangir, Feb 19: In a significant move against Maoist insurgency in the Gandhamardan region of Bolangir district, Odisha Police have initiated a new poster campaign aimed at encouraging Maoists to surrender and return to mainstream society. The posters, now displayed across key locations in the region, offer cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of the listed Maoist cadres.

Key highlights of the Campaign:

Appeal to Maoists: The initiative titled “Catch Maoists, Get Rewarded” marks a shift in strategy, urging Maoists to abandon violence and reintegrate into the community.

Cash Rewards: The posters feature a list of 15 Maoist cadres with specific rewards for actionable information about their whereabouts. The highest reward of ₹65 lakh is offered for Sudarshan alias Bikash, a Special Zonal Committee Member active in the Nuapada-Bolangir-Bargarh area.

Confidentiality Assured: Police have assured that the identities of informants will remain strictly confidential, with contact numbers displayed for easy communication.

This new approach contrasts with previous years when Maoists used posters to intimidate police and locals. Now, Odisha Police are turning the tactic around, using the same method to incentivize cooperation and prompt Maoist surrender.

Reports indicate a significant decline in Maoist activities in the region, with remaining insurgents operating in small groups of 4-5 members, bringing the total strength to around 14-15 individuals. Security agencies continue to monitor the situation and carry out ongoing operations.

This campaign is seen as a vital step towards restoring peace and stability in the region.
