Mumbai, Sep 14: As India's T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav turned 34 on Saturday (September 14), social media was flooded with wishes, greeting and exchange of pleasantries.
Even BCCI secretary and ICC President designate Jay Shah wished him all the best. Among others, his wife Devisha Shetty, present and former Team India players, friends, fans and family members wished Surya all the best on his birthday.
Moreover, fans reminded Surya about his match-turning spectacular catch against South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final on June 29 at Bridgetown (Barbados).
Surya's valiant efforts on the boundary-line ended danger-man David Miller's innings, who threatened to take the match away from India with his efforts of 21 runs in 17 deliveries.
The catch almost ended the Proteas chances of winning the T20 World Cup. It helped India bounce back into the summit clash and emerge triumphant.
Surya's catch was compared with the 1983 astonishing running catch by the then India team captain Kapil Dev. Kapil's incredible catch forced West Indies batting mainstay Vivian Richards to return back to the pavilion after an impressive 33, after he played a lofted shot on leg side of Indian pacer Madan Lal.
After Rohit Sharma quit the shortest format along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title win, Surya was appointed India's new T20I skipper.
In his first assignment as captain of India in the shortest format of the game, Surya lifted the T20I bilateral three-match series against Sri Lanka in the island nation recently.
