Cuttack, Dec 18: The demoralizing words, "Ladki Ko Padhaoge…Kya Karegi…Collector Banegi Kya," were the catalyst that transformed Sujata Rout Karthikeyan's perspective and fueled her unwavering determination to pursue her dream career in Civil Services. This unidentified individual unknowingly sparked a fire within her, altering the course of her life.
Reflecting on her journey, Sujata shared, "When I was in the 10th class, I expressed my desire to study Arts to my father. My family was taken aback, but my father, a pillar of support, encouraged and backed my decision. After completing my 12th, I approached my father with a request to allow me to go to Delhi for higher studies. In 1993, we embarked on the journey to Delhi for college admission. During our visit, an unfamiliar face enquired about the purpose, asking, 'Kyun Aye Ho?' My father explained that I wanted to pursue Arts in college. To this, the gentleman questioned, 'Are Ladki Ko Padhaoge…Kya Karegi…Collector Banegi Kya.' Without hesitation, my father replied, 'Haan…Ban Bhi Sakti Hai.'"
Those words resonated deeply with Sujata Rout Karthikeyan, shaping her resolve to tread the path of a Civil Servant. Today, she holds the position of Commissioner-Cum-Secretary in the Department of Mission Shakti and serves as the Secretary for the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department. Sujata played a pivotal role in the success of the Mission Shakti movement in Odisha.
Sharing her life's struggles and triumphs at the Foundation Day of Ravenshaw Girls School in Cuttack, Sujata aimed to inspire the students. She conveyed the message that anything is possible and urged them not to limit their aspirations based on gender. Addressing the young audience, she emphasized, "You are all angels in your lives, and always hope that you can do anything. All are there to support you."
During the event, Sujata revealed that her father, hailing from a normal middle-class family, studied at Baluria High School in Kendrapada. He faced numerous challenges but persevered through difficulties, ultimately studying at Ravenshaw College and later at SCB Medical College. Sujata fondly recalled her childhood, attributing her introduction to Ravenshaw to her father's stories and experiences.
