Sudung Forest Operation Leads to Ten Arrests and Recovery of Illegal Bush Meat

Ten Individuals Detained in Banspal Block Following Wildlife Trafficking Bust

Forest officials in Keonjhar district successfully intercepted a wildlife poaching operation on October 27, resulting in the detention of ten individuals. The group was apprehended while attempting to transport illegal wild boar meat for sale.

The operation was launched by the Bhuyan Juang Peedh Range after receiving credible intelligence regarding poaching activities. Acting on this information, forest personnel established an ambush position near the Batagaon canal within the Sudung forest.

Around 3 PM, the team intercepted a Bolero vehicle (OD-02 V-1807) matching the suspects' description. The vehicle was stopped and searched by the waiting officials, leading to the capture of the ten men inside.

During the search, officers discovered and seized approximately 8 kilograms of wild boar meat, along with the leg of a dead boar. In addition to the Bolero, the department also confiscated a motorcycle, two axes, and snares, all believed to have been used during the illegal hunt.

Upon questioning, the detained individuals reportedly confessed to the crime. They admitted to setting snares within the Sudung forest to trap and kill the wild animal. All ten suspects, identified as residents of Sudang village, are currently being interrogated by the Forest Department as the investigation continues.

The successful operation involved two forest teams, including the Ranger, a forester, several forest guards, and squad staff. This bust highlights the department's ongoing efforts to curb the illegal wildlife trade in the region.
