Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: The Odisha government has stepped up vigilance following reports of the spread of the Nipah virus in neighboring West Bengal. In response, the State Health Department has convened a high-level review meeting to assess preparedness and preventive measures.

The meeting will be chaired by Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling and is scheduled to be held on the second floor of Lok Seva Bhavan.

Health officials said recent reports of Nipah virus cases in West Bengal have triggered concern, as a large number of people from Odisha travel to the neighboring state on a daily basis. Considering the potential risk, the Health Department has intensified surveillance and is taking precautionary steps to prevent any possible outbreak in the state.

The meeting is expected to focus on monitoring mechanisms, preparedness of healthcare facilities, and strategies to ensure early detection and effective response.
