SRC takes preparatory meeting to tackle possible summer cyclone

Bhubaneswar, May 19: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) P.K Jena took a preparatory meeting with ODRAF, NDRF, Fire Service and IMD to manage the possible summer cyclone in Bay of Bengal. Jena later in the evening took another meeting Collectors, SPs, Fire Officers of 12 coastal and nearby districts, Municipal Commissioners of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and Commissionerate Police. The district administrations were advised to identify more alternate shelters for sheltering people observing COVID protocols, keep the emergency equipment like inflatable tower lights, chainsaws and generators in readiness, to identify people living in kutcha houses for evacuation if required and to ensure proper hygiene and clean drinking water in shelters. Collectors were advised to check and keep communication equipment like satellite phones, VHF sets, and alert siren towers in operational condition. The district authorities were asked to invoke provisions of Disaster Management Act, 2005 for evacuation and other arrangements to save life.
