South Coast Railway Boundary Expansion Includes Palasa and Ichchapuram

Railway Board modifies jurisdiction for proposed South Coast zone

Railway Board officials have officially revised the boundaries for the proposed South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone. In a move that alters the administrative landscape of the region, the Competent Authority decided to transfer the Palasa – Ichchapuram section to the Visakhapatnam division. This specific stretch of track currently operates under the Khurda Road division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR).

Strategic adjustments like this often stem from the need to streamline operations at state borders, as this section serves as a vital link between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. This modification ensures that the upcoming SCoR headquarters in Visakhapatnam will have direct oversight of these northern tracks.

Jurisdiction Shift Details

Rameshwer Meena, Executive Director of E&R, issued the directive on April 2, 2026. The order instructs both the South Coast and East Coast Railway General Managers to finalize the new boundary coordinates immediately. This decision updates previous plans from early 2025, reflecting a more localized approach to managing transit corridors in the coastal belt.
