Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: While a hefty sum of at least Rs 46 Crore looted from Odisha people during the last 7 months by the cyberfraudsters, is a high-end task for the Odisha Crime Branch and Cyber Police sleuths, suspicious Wallet boxes discovered from the Capital City on Wednesday, have made police’s task even toughfer.
The Commissionerate Police, following a tip off from the USA sources has seized two sophisticated wallet boxes, a wave antenna, as many as six laptops, 8 cell phones and a number of illegal telecommunication accessories, from a residential building located in the secluded area at Sundarpadain Bhubaneswar.The Wallet boxes, telecommunication tools and the U-antena were allegedly aligned to duping global traders and moneyed people.
Apart from the suspicious seizure, the police had nabbed at least six West Bengal based youths who were suspectedly entering to the residence complex at mid-night to initiate their networking to commit cybercrimes, setting traps from this cybercrime syndicate.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra, the suspicious devices were seized from the Flat No 205(Block-A) situated on the Kokila-Kanchan Tower Campus at Sundarpada. The six accused persons nabbed from the Walletbox hub were duping people from across the globe through cybercrime.
As per their modus operandi, they used to send fabulous offers to moneyed traders across the world crashing their particulars from their cell phones, through messages and emails from tollfree numbers and fake email IDs.Subsequently, they duped of lakhs of rupees from the the people who clicked or logon their links.
Hinting the root of the investigation of the ever biggest cybercrime hub busted yet in Odisha, the DCP said that the fraudsters with the simplest Wallet boxes installed with the Wave Antena and networked with a number of laptops and cellphones, were duping of Forex including US Dollars, Taiwan Dollars, Ringgists etc, that was being operated from the close-door apartment at Sundarpada.
As per the primary investigation, the cybercrime hub is involved in duping scores of potential traders from the USA, Taiwan, Malasia and Thailand. Based on the complaint of an USA national Edward Berg lodged at the Indian Embassy in the USA who was duped of at least 1000 US Dollar, the Union Home Ministry ordered a probe into the case. Acting on the feedback, the Commissionarte police reached at the Cybercrime hub that was operated from the Smart City in Bhubaneswar and unearthed the crime syndicate, the DCP added.
