New Delhi, June 19: Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has been discharged from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, after receiving treatment for a stomach-related ailment. The 78-year-old leader was admitted on June 15 and was under the care of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology.
Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of the hospital, confirmed her discharge and said, “Sonia Gandhi is stable and has been discharged today.” According to the hospital, she had been diagnosed with an abdominal infection, which responded well to conservative medical treatment. While her condition has improved, she will continue to receive outpatient care and will remain under close medical observation.
Upon her admission, Dr. Swaroop had earlier stated on June 16 that Gandhi was stable and under continuous monitoring. Providing a further update on June 17, he mentioned, “Sonia Gandhi is stable and responding well to treatment. She is recovering from a stomach infection. Her diet is being carefully monitored, and she remains under observation. As a precautionary measure, her discharge date was then undecided.”
Earlier this month, Sonia Gandhi also underwent a routine medical check-up on June 9 at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Before that, on June 7, during a visit to Shimla, she visited the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital for a check-up after experiencing minor health concerns. Dr. Aman Chauhan, Deputy Medical Superintendent at IGMC, said her blood pressure was slightly elevated but emphasized that there was nothing serious.
Sonia Gandhi, the former Congress President and a senior figure in Indian politics, will continue to be monitored as she recovers from a stomach ailment.
