Jharsuguda: Maintaining communal harmony, strengthening brotherhood and ensuring social peace, along with effective crime control, will be the foremost priorities of the Jharsuguda district police, newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Sonali Singh Parmar said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference at the district police headquarters, Parmar said Jharsuguda, being a major industrial and energy hub, attracts people from different parts of the country and has gradually evolved into a mini-India. Ensuring peaceful coexistence among people from diverse backgrounds would therefore remain a key focus of the police administration.

She said the police would adopt a firm approach towards crimes against women, cybercrime and criminal activities reported along national and state highways. Strengthening law and order and taking effective steps to prevent criminal activities would also receive priority.

Policing priorities

  1. Communal harmony, public safety and crime control top the agenda
  2. Special focus on crimes against women, cybercrime and highway offences
  3. Police to address law-and-order challenges linked to industrial expansion and land acquisition

The SP further highlighted the challenges associated with industrialisation, mining expansion, land acquisition and displacement. She said the district police would remain vigilant in handling situations arising out of resistance to land acquisition and rehabilitation-related issues to prevent disruptions to public order.

Expressing her commitment to improving policing services, Parmar said she had taken charge with a positive outlook and would strive to make the police administration more responsive and accessible to the public.

Given Jharsuguda's strategic importance as one of the country's major energy hubs, maintaining law and order and preventing criminal activities would be non-negotiable, she said while responding to questions from media representatives.

She also stressed the need for effective policing to address emerging challenges in the rapidly developing industrial district.
