Baripada, March 26: In a gruesome incident, an 80-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his son over a dispute involving Rs400 in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
The incident was reported from Ladadihi village under Haldipal panchayat within the jurisdiction of Morada police and Chitrada outpost. The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Marandi.
According to sources, the accused, Madhu Marandi, had been regularly demanding money from his father. On Wednesday night at around 9 PM, he again asked for ₹400, reportedly earned from selling drumsticks. When the elderly man refused, Madhu, allegedly in an inebriated state, attacked him with a bamboo stick, leading to his death.
On receiving information, Chitrada outpost officer Bhimasen Mallik reached the spot on Thursday morning and detained the accused.
Family members alleged that the accused had earlier been forcibly taking money from his father’s pension. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
