Bhubaneswar, June 22: Social media has emerged as the most powerful medium for information dissemination and communication in the digital age, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Sunday while addressing the ‘Srujan Sambad: Digital Creators Meet’ organised by BJP Odisha.
The Chief Minister said the influence of social media had become evident since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ initiative, which demonstrated the platform’s ability to connect with people on a large scale.
Speaking at the event, Majhi said the programme provided a unique opportunity to interact directly with leading content creators and digital media representatives from across the state. BJP Odisha President Manmohan Samal and State In-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar were also present.
Highlighting the role of creative freedom in a democracy, the Chief Minister alleged that the previous government had attempted to suppress critical voices, whereas the present government remains committed to democratic values and freedom of expression.
He urged digital creators to avoid misleading clickbait content and the lure of instant popularity, and instead focus on producing high-quality, purpose-driven content. Majhi also called upon creators to use digital platforms to showcase Odisha’s rich art, culture and heritage, as well as the government’s public welfare initiatives, before a global audience.
The Chief Minister appealed to all stakeholders to play a constructive role in realising the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and a ‘Samruddha Odisha’ through responsible and impactful digital engagement.
