Bhadrak, Feb 21: In another bid of suicide, an unemployed girl in Odisha’s Bhadrak, attempted self-immolation on Saturday for non-redressal of her grievance.

She was rushed to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital for resuscitation.

The woman identified as Bijaylaxmi Das, who is reportedly an aspirant for Balvatika teacher, was rescued by the onlookers from the premises of Bhadrak Collectorate this afternoon.

According to report, the survivor who hails from the Shyansundarpur area, following her Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education(ECCE) from IGNOU frequently applied for a job of Nursery Teacher, but in vain. Recently, she was hopeful to get a chance in the Balvatika, as the government resolved to launch the early childhood education across the Odisha schools. However, the government decided to engage primary teachers in the Balvatikas, training them with essential orientations.

Stressed over it, Das visited the Collector Office Bhadrak today in a bid to put forth her grievance in this connection. However, she could not meet the district Collector despite a sincere attempt.

Following this, the aggrieved girl set herself on fire in the district headquarters campus from a matchbox, she had concealed with her earlier.

Responding to her scream, the bystanders rescued her from the spot and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

She is under treatment in the Burn Ward while a team of police, accompanied by a delegation of Bhadrak Collectorate, visited the hospital and took stock of the matter, said sources.

Comments of police and district admin regarding the incident are awaited.
