Bhubaneswar, Mar 12: A young girl’s online romance on social media platform Snapchat turned tragic after a youth allegedly betrayed and blackmailed her in Tamando area of Bhubaneswar.
The accused, identified as Swarup Dash, an engineer by profession, reportedly gained the girl’s trust after connecting with her on Snapchat, leading to a romantic relationship.
According to the complaint lodged at Tamando Police Station, Dash allegedly engaged in a physical relationship with the girl, secretly recording the encounter on his mobile phone. He then allegedly used the explicit video to blackmail her, making coercive demands.
When the girl refused to comply, Dash allegedly circulated the video among her family members and his friends, intensifying her distress. Left with no other option, the girl approached Tamando Police Station seeking justice.
Following the complaint, Tamando Police launched an investigation, arrested Swarup Dash from the Madhuban area of Paradeep, and forwarded him to the court. Authorities have confirmed that further probe into the matter is ongoing.
