A human skeleton recovered from the old canteen building of the defunct spinning mill under Kotinada police limits is suspected to be that of a 25-year-old youth who went missing in 2024.
The skeletal remains were found inside the long-abandoned canteen of the mill, triggering panic and curiosity among local residents. Acting on information, Kotinada police rushed to the spot and recovered the skeleton. The remains have since been sent for forensic examination to ascertain the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Investigators have linked the discovery to a missing person case registered at Kotinada police station in 2024. As part of the probe, police summoned the family members of the missing youth, identified as A. Shankar Patra, to inspect the remains and surrounding evidence.
According to sources, the family members identified the skeleton as that of Shankar Patra based on the location, personal clues and the overall circumstances in which the remains were found. However, police officials have clarified that scientific confirmation will only be possible after forensic and DNA examination reports are received.
The recovery of the skeleton from a deserted structure that had remained largely inaccessible for years has added a layer of mystery to the case. Residents of the area expressed shock over the discovery, while investigators are examining all possible angles, including whether the death was accidental, natural or the result of any foul play.
Police have intensified the investigation and are awaiting forensic findings that could help unravel the mystery behind the young man's disappearance and death.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over abandoned industrial premises, which often remain unattended for years and can become sites of unexplained incidents. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inquiry before arriving at any conclusion.
