Malkangiri, Apr 8: A joint team of Sukuma Police and Cobra units of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today arrested at least six members of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in Odisha’s Malkangiri district bordering Chhattisgarh.
The joint team has also recovered 19 BGM bombs and a huge cache of explosives from their possession.
As per reports, the arrests were made during a joint operation which was conducted by Sukuma Police and Cobra units of CRPF to combat Maoist insurgency in the region.
The arrested Maoists were wanted in several cases and involved in numerous criminal activities, said Superintedent of Police (SP) of Sukuma district while addressing the media.
It is worth mentioning that the security forces had gunned down Top of Formthree Maoists in a dense forest in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district bordering Telangana on April 6.
Similarly, 13 Naxalites including three women were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district earlier this week.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha and Odisha Assembly polls, Odisha police has procured six high-tech drones to carry out surveillance to combat Maoist activities in the affected districts of the state.
