Shallow to moderate fog predicted for coastal areas

Bhubaneswar: Winter conditions continue to prevail across the state as dry weather dominates the landscape. According to the latest bulletin from the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar for February 2, 2026, residents should prepare for consistent cold spells and foggy mornings in specific regions.

Temperature Updates

G. Udayagiri in the hill stations has once again emerged as the coldest location in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 9.4°C. In the plains, the steel city of Rourkela recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 11.1°C. Conversely, Jharsuguda registered the highest maximum temperature in the state at 31.9°C.

For the capital region, Bhubaneswar recorded a night temperature of 15.8°C, while Cuttack was slightly cooler at 14.4°C. The weather department has indicated that there will be no large change in minimum temperatures (night temperature) over the districts of Odisha for the next six to seven days, suggesting the chill is here to stay for the week.

Fog Warnings

Visibility remains a key concern for early morning commuters. Dense fog was observed today in Khordha, Angul, and Chhatrapur, with visibility dropping significantly.

Looking ahead, the IMD has issued a forecast for shallow to moderate fog over the next 48 hours. This is very likely to occur during early morning hours at isolated pockets in the following districts: Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Nayagarh, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur

For Day 2 (Feb 3 to Feb 4), Kendrapara is also added to the list of districts likely to experience foggy conditions. Commuters on highways in these regions are advised to drive with caution during early hours.
