Mumbai, Jul 12: Indian equity benchmarks soared to record highs on Friday, driven by strong buying in IT stocks.
While the Sensex reached a new all-time high of 80,893, Nifty climbed to 24,592.
As of 12:50 a.m., the Sensex stood at 80,482, up 585 points or 0.73 percent, and the Nifty was at 24,488, up 172 points or 0.71 percent.
Midcap stocks are underperforming compared to large caps. The Nifty Midcap 100 index is down 70 points, or 0.12 percent, at 57,077, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index is up 54 points, or 0.29 percent, at 18,974.
Among the sectoral indices, the Nifty IT index is at 38,985, showing a gain of 4.44 percent. Additionally, there are rises in the media, financial services, service sector, and private bank indices.
In the Sensex pack, the top gainers are TCS (6.5 percent), Wipro (4.75 percent), Infosys (3.39 percent), Tech Mahindra (3.17 percent), and HCL Tech (3.08 percent), while the top losers are NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Asian Paints, and Sun Pharma, each falling by about half a percent.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the country's largest IT company, released its Q1 FY25 results on Thursday. The company's profit increased to Rs 12,040 crore on an annual basis. Between April and June, the IT major's income grew by 5.4 percent year-on-year to Rs 62,613 crore. TCS also declared an interim dividend of Rs 10 per share to investors.
