Self-immolation before Mahanga PS: Woman dies in SCB

Cuttack, Aug 21: The woman, who had attempted self-immolation before the Mahanga police station in Odisha’s Cuttack district, succumbed on Wednesday during treatment in the SCB Medical College & Hospital here.

The victim was admitted to the hospital with at least 60 percent burn injuries as she charred herself before the police sprinkling petrol on her body on August 16.

She was rushed to the SCB Medical College & Hospital (SCB MC&H) for resuscitation.

Sources said, the woman took the extreme decision to release her husband who was picked by police on charges of theft.

As per reports, Rashmita had reached the Mahanga police station in the morning and appealed the police to release her husband pleading him innocent.However, the police were not convinced and  did not set him free from the hazat.

Following this, an irked Rashmita sprinkled petrol on her body and set herself on fire. She was immediately rescued from the spot and rushed to the Government Hospital at Mahanga. Later, she was shifted to the SCB MC&H as her condition went worse.
