Bargarh, Sept 11: As many as three persons suffering from rare Scrub Typhus infections died whereas at least 10 were hospitalized in Odisha’s Bargarh district during this week.
Following the death of a patient due to the Scrub Typhus infection on Wednesday, the district health administration braced up to deal with the complications.
According to the CDMO Bargarh, Saroj Pradhan (42), a farmer of Mundapali village, succumbed on Monday, while a 70-year-old woman, Sakhi Pradhan of Padampur, died on Tuesday and Sikha Rana (16) of Padampur on Wednesday due to the Scrub Typhus. Four more patients are reportedly undergoing treatment in various private clinics in the town yet.
Responding to the media persons on the surveillance, CDMO Nirupama Sarangi said, “Three more cases were detected among 20 following the ELISA test this month. They are at homecare and their condition is stable,” However, she assured of massive awareness regarding the disease.
Worth mentioning, at least 8 Scrub Typhus infected ones had died in 2023 in Western Odisha whereas as many as 2,820 samples tested positive.
Scrub Typhus or Bush Typhus is a mite-borne bacterial infection caused by infected larval mites. Fever, headache, body aches, and unusual reddish rashes are its primary symptoms.
