Cuttack, March 9: Scores of antique idols made of brass, copper and stone were recovered from Mahanadi river in Odisha by fishermen on Friday when the state was soaking in devotion of Lord Shiva on the occasion of Mahashivaratri.
The idols were found from the river near Jatamundia bridge in Subarnapur village of Banki block in Cuttack district.
As per reports, some fishermen found something heavy in their fishing net. Later, it came out to be some antique idols following which a frantic search operation was carried out in the river.
After thorough search, they recovered over 60 Nag idols made of brass and copper, four Shiva Lingas made of brass, a brass idol of Hara-Parvati and two stone idols of Vrishabha.
As the idols were recovered on Maha Shivaratri, people from nearby localities rushed to the spot to have a glimpse of them.
The local police reached the spot being informed about the incident and shifted the recovered idols to nearby Shiva shrine.
Devotees have started worshipping them by offering flowers, ghee lamps, resin and incense and Bhoga.
