Cuttack, Oct 20: The much awaited liver transplant surgery will start at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack by December this year.
Initially, the hospital administration has tried to operationalise the modular operation theatre (OT) for liver transplantation.
The light that was being used at the OT dedicated for critical patients during Covid pandemic has been installed in liver transplant OT.
The light from the defunct OT was shifted to liver transplant unit following a meeting chaired by SCB Hospital superintendent Dr Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra on Thursday.
It has been decided to prepare the liver transplant OT by October end or November first week.
After setting up of the OT, the doctors from Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad will come here to train doctors regarding liver transplant as per the MoU signed with the institute by the Odisha government.
The hospital has prepared a list of doctors to undergo the training programme for liver transplant. It is targeted to conduct the first liver transplant in SCB Hospital by December this year, said Dr Mishra.
