Wildlife Safety Prioritised with Deep Tunnels on New Train Line

Future travelers in Odisha are in for a visually stunning journey that spans dramatic heights and depths. The upcoming Khurda-Balangir railway project is set to offer a unique travel experience, featuring engineering marvels that traverse both the sky and the subterranean earth. This ambitious infrastructure initiative in the Boudh district balances modern connectivity with the preservation of the region's natural beauty.

Engineering Feats in Boudh

Construction crews are currently working on a war footing to reshape the landscape between Purunakatak and Teisimil stations. The focal points of this effort are two massive viaducts rising near the villages of Karanjakata and Tilakupa. These imposing structures stand between 70 to 80 feet above the ground. The larger bridge stretches an impressive 1.2 kilometers, supported by 46 concrete pillars, while a second bridge covers 600 meters atop 20 pillars. Contractors report that fifty percent of this complex work is already complete, utilizing advanced machinery to maintain a rapid pace.

Protecting Wildlife and Economy

Beyond the soaring bridges, the project demonstrates a deep commitment to environmental safety. Between Teisimil and Adenigarh, the tracks plunge 200 feet beneath the surface. Engineers have designed four specific tunnels in this section to ensure trains pass without disturbing the forest ecosystem above. This design choice actively protects local wildlife and forest resources. Local residents remain optimistic that the swift completion of these tracks will trigger a significant economic boom for the entire Boudh district.

The Khurda-Balangir line represents more than just a new travel route; it is a blend of structural innovation and ecological responsibility. Once operational, it promises to unlock economic potential for the region while offering passengers a truly scenic ride.

  • Engineering Marvels: The project features two massive viaducts standing up to 80 feet high and spanning over a kilometer in length.
  • Subterranean Travel: Trains will travel 200 feet underground through four tunnels designed to protect the forest and wildlife.
  • Rapid Progress: Construction is 50% complete, with modern machinery accelerating the remaining work on a war footing.
  • Economic Impact: The completed railway link is expected to significantly boost the local economy of the Boudh district.
