New Delhi, May 18: The Supreme Court declined to grant a stay on the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2024 exam on Friday. However, the Apex Court agreed to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a fresh conduct of the NEET UG exams due to reported malpractices and alleged paper leaks.
According to the sources, the bench, consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, acknowledged the PIL and scheduled it for a hearing post the summer vacations in July.
While the bench acknowledged the gravity of the matter, it emphasized that staying the results of a nationwide examination at the current juncture would not be feasible.
A petitioner has raised concerns regarding the alleged paper leak of the NEET UG exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 5. The petitioner argued that such malpractices undermine the integrity of the examination process and unfairly advantage certain candidates over others who opted for a fair attempt.
The petitioner further contended that the purported paper leak violates Article 14, as it creates an unequal playing field for candidates.
