Mumbai, April 10: Young actress Sara Arjun has landed a major role in an upcoming Bollywood project, where she will essay the character of legendary actress Madhubala. The film will be directed by Jasmeet K. Reen and produced by noted filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Sara, who recently appeared in Dhurandhar 2 directed by Aditya Dhar, is set to take on one of the most challenging roles of her career. The film will explore the “Golden Era” of Hindi cinema, bringing to life the journey of Madhubala, widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses in Indian film history.

The project is currently in the pre-production stage, with shooting expected to commence later this year. According to sources, Sara will undergo a significant physical transformation to convincingly portray Madhubala. The makers are focusing extensively on costume detailing, training, and look tests to recreate the period with authenticity.

The film is envisioned as a tribute to Madhubala’s legacy. Director Jasmeet K. Reen, who earlier helmed the critically acclaimed Darlings starring Alia Bhatt and Vijay Varma, is expected to bring a nuanced narrative to the biographical drama.

Madhubala, a leading star of the 1950s and 60s, featured in over 70 films during her career. She began as a child artist in Basant and went on to deliver iconic performances in classics such as Mughal-e-Azam, Barsaat Ki Raat, Howrah Bridge, and Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. She passed away in 1969 due to a heart ailment.
