Maneswar, May 19: In yet another instance of man-animal conflict, an elderly man was trampled to death by a herd of elephant in a forest near Majuriapada of Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Shyamsundar Pradhan (65), a resident of Chilikama village. As per reports, Pradhan had gone to Nuamunda village through the forest. While returning home late in the evening, he allegedly encountered a herd of elephants near Majuriapada.
Thereafter, the pachyderm attacked him trampling Pradhan to death on the spot. His family began searching for him when he didn't return to home for a long time. After conducting a search with the help of locals, his body was spotted near Majuriapada.
Being informed, forest officials and Jujumura police reached the spot, sent the body for postmortem and started an investigation into the matter.
