Clash between student groups over posters sparks tension at Rama Devi Women's University

Bhubaneswar, July 7: Tension gripped Rama Devi Women's University on Tuesday after a dispute between two student organisations over the removal of posters escalated into a major confrontation on the university campus.

The incident allegedly involved both students and outsiders, raising serious concerns over campus security.

According to allegations, the dispute began outside the university when members of one student organisation allegedly forced another student group to remove its posters. The disagreement soon intensified, creating a tense atmosphere between the two groups.

The situation reportedly worsened when around a dozen non-students allegedly entered the university campus. Several students claimed that the outsiders threatened female students, and the confrontation took place near the office of the Vice-Chancellor.

Disturbed by the developments, students closed all the campus gates in protest and questioned how male outsiders were able to gain access to a women's university.

The incident has also raised concerns about the safety and security of students on campus. Members of both student groups submitted separate written complaints to Vice-Chancellor Jyotsna K. B. Rout and Registrar, seeking appropriate action over the incident.

Reacting to the controversy, the Vice-Chancellor condemned the incident and announced strict action against the 12 outsiders who allegedly entered the campus without authorisation.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the earlier dispute between the two student groups had already been resolved by the university administration. However, despite security personnel attempting to prevent unauthorised entry, one individual sought permission to meet the Vice-Chancellor, after which around 12 outsiders allegedly entered the campus together.

She further alleged that the group created a disturbance in front of the Vice-Chancellor's office despite repeated requests to maintain order. The incident briefly disrupted the peaceful atmosphere of the university.

Calling the incident unacceptable, the Vice-Chancellor said the university administration has taken the matter seriously. An internal meeting has already been held, and a formal written complaint will be lodged with the police against those involved.

She added that the situation is now completely under control and assured students that appropriate measures would be taken to strengthen campus security and ensure such incidents do not recur.
