Chandigarh, June 26: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader of Panjab, Bikram Singh Majithia, was remanded to seven days of police custody by a Mohali court on Thursday in connection with a money laundering case linked to drug-related proceeds.
The court was informed that Majithia failed to explain the undisclosed income of ₹540 crore, including suspicious cash deposits through his family-run Saraya Industries during his ministerial terms.
Allegations also include discrepancies in foreign loans, personal assets, and threats to investigating officers.
Protests by SAD workers broke out after his arrest by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. His wife, Ganieve Kaur, claimed the arrest was made without a warrant.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema accused previous governments of drug nexus involvement, vowing strict action. Majithia will appear in court again on July 2.
