Balasore, July 3: Rough sea conditions along the Digha-Talsari coastline on Friday prompted authorities to issue a high alert, with tidal waves reportedly rising up to 10 feet and seawater breaching the coastal protection wall in Digha. The development has triggered panic among local residents as water entered low-lying areas of the coastal town.
The sea remained turbulent along the Digha, Udaypur and Talsari coast, forcing the local administration to step up precautionary measures. Authorities have advised tourists and residents to avoid venturing near the shoreline until the sea calms.
With a large number of tourists from different states currently visiting Digha, the administration has prohibited both visitors and fishermen from entering the sea in view of the prevailing conditions.
The Chandaneswar Fisheries Department has also issued warnings to fishermen, urging them not to venture into the sea. Public announcements are being made through loudspeakers at the fish landing centres in Udaypur, Talsari, Ranasinghpur and Kirtania to ensure that fishermen remain ashore until further notice.
