Patna/ Bhubaneswar, June 27: In a shocking incident, passengers aboard the Bhubaneswar bound Duronto Express from New Delhi were robbed near Bihar’s Gaya in the early hours of Friday.
An official from the Gaya Government Railway Police (GRP) stated that a group of robbers targeted at least five coaches of New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Duronto Express and looted bags, mobile phones, laptops, and other valuables from passengers.
Following the robbery, the criminals pulled the emergency chain between Paraiya and Kastha stations on the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU)-Gaya railway section around 2 a.m. This stopped the train for more than half an hour, and the robbers escaped under the cover of darkness.
Several passengers reported that their purses, mobiles, and laptops were stolen during the incident, with at least 12 victims affected, causing widespread panic.
Some passengers mentioned seeing a few people moving around when the train left the DDU railway station on Thursday night. Shockingly, there were no Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel patrolling the coaches to ensure the safety of passengers.
The incident caused anger among passengers, who protested at Gaya Railway Station, demanding the recovery of their stolen belongings.
After receiving the information, railway police and Paraiya police arrived at the scene and started their investigation. A special team, led by the Railway DSP, has been formed to track down the culprits.
During the initial investigation, several empty bags were found near the tracks, suggesting that the thieves had stolen the items and discarded the bags.
The police suspect the involvement of a well-organized gang behind the robbery.
An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed at the Gaya GRP police station regarding the theft.
