Mumbai, July 17: National Award-winning actress Rituparna Sengupta, known for her work in Bengali cinema, is gearing up to organize a spectacular Durga Puja event in Mumbai this year. Her aim is to bring the essence of Kolkata's vibrant Durga Puja celebrations and the festive spirit of Dussehra to the city of Mumbai.
Collaborating with the Mumbai Bengali Cultural Association (MBCA), Rituparna plans to showcase diverse cultures through the event. She expressed her excitement, stating, "Following the immense success of the past two years, I am thrilled to expand the scope of Durga Puja nationally by partnering with MBCA. We will feature Garba, Dhunuchi dance, and various cultural programs from across India."
Scheduled from October 8 to October 13, 2024, at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, the event titled 'MBCA Durga Puja & India Festival 2024' aims to unite communities and foster a sense of home, akin to India's largest national festival.
In previous years, veteran playback singer Kumar Sanu organized the Durga Puja in Mumbai, attracting notable guests such as Dharmendra, Anupam Kher, Mouni Roy, Alka Yagnik, and Anu Malik. Rituparna hopes to continue this tradition with support from prominent figures like former Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshiyari and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Sanjay Kolkatawala and Niladri Roy, Founders and Directors of MBCA, expressed their enthusiasm for this year's expanded event, themed around "unity in diversity." They stated, "We are excited to showcase Indian art, culture, and heritage on a grand scale, featuring exhibition stalls, food courts, and cultural programs that celebrate the uniqueness of India. This celebration will be open to all who wish to join and enjoy with their loved ones."
With plans for a larger venue and a diverse array of cultural activities, Rituparna Sengupta and MBCA aim to make the 2024 Durga Puja in Mumbai a memorable and inclusive celebration of Indian traditions and community spirit.
