Bhadrak, Aug 8: Flood fears have returned to Bhadrak district as water levels in the Salandi River and its tributaries continue to rise, while the situation along the Baitarani River remains a cause for concern.

Several areas under Bhadrak Municipality, along with parts of different panchayats and Tihidi block, have been affected by floodwaters. Low-lying areas have been inundated, with water entering several settlements and disrupting normal life.

Water has also started entering some old breaches and vulnerable points, raising concerns among residents living in flood-prone areas. Houses have been submerged in several locations, while connectivity to some villages has been affected. Farmlands have also suffered due to the rising water.

The administration is closely monitoring rainfall in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, as further rainfall in the upper catchment areas could worsen the situation downstream.

Meanwhile, two gates of Hadagarh Dam have been opened to regulate the water level, adding to the need for close monitoring of downstream areas.

The recurring floods have once again highlighted the vulnerability of communities living along the Baitarani river basin, where heavy monsoon rainfall can quickly disrupt transportation, education, agriculture and everyday life.

Authorities are monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to manage the flood impact and assist affected residents. People in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert and follow official instructions.
