Bhubaneswar, Ap 9: Devraj Sarangi, a retired officer, has been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife, Priyambada Sarangi, at their residence in Swastik Nagar, Lane-4, under the jurisdiction of Airfield police station. The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday morning, leaving authorities and family members puzzled over the motive.

According to police, Devraj, who retired voluntarily from the AG office two years ago, was found sitting beside his wife’s body in their bedroom when officers arrived at the scene. Earlier that morning, he had visited his daughter’s house, leaving her cash and gold jewelry, before returning home.

The forensic team began a detailed investigation after informing the couple’s daughter about the incident. While Devraj was reportedly under treatment for diabetes and thyroid issues, police have yet to determine why he committed the violent act.

Police Commissioner S. Debadatta Singh confirmed that Devraj is in custody and that authorities are investigating whether there was any prior preparation involved in the crime.

Neighbors and family members expressed shock, noting that the couple appeared to lead a stable household and cared for their young daughter. The reasons for the sudden breakdown of their 35-year marital relationship and the resulting tragedy remain unknown.

Police have indicated that further interrogation and investigation are necessary to uncover the circumstances behind this incident.
