Cuttack, Jul 29: In a decisive move against reckless driving and dangerous social media stunts, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Cuttack has imposed Rs 16,000 fine on a couple for performing hazardous motorcycle tricks while recording videos for online platforms.
The incident came to light when a video went viral, showing a man riding a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle with his wife dangerously perched in front of him. The couple, believed to be from Athagarh in Cuttack district, was reportedly filming content for Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
The video caught the attention of a concerned citizen who quickly shared the footage, including the vehicle’s registration number, tagging the Odisha Transport Department, the state’s Director General of Police, Cuttack District Collector, and Usha Padhee, the Principal Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development Department. The citizen called for swift action against the offenders.

Following the incident, the RTO launched an investigation and identified the vehicle owner as Mohan Sahu. Consequently, a challan for Rs 16,000 was issued, breaking down as follows:
Rs 5,000 for dangerous driving under Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act
Rs 10,000 for causing air and noise pollution under Section 190(2)
Rs 1,000 for riding without helmets, as per Section 194(D)
Transport authorities have emphasized that stringent monitoring measures are in place to prevent the misuse of public roads for dangerous stunts and viral content creation.
