Bhubaneswar, June 29: With the tragic stampede in Odisha’s Puri during this Rath Yatra in the wee hours of Sunday, ADGP Soumendra Priyadarshi was assigned as the incharge of police operation to oversee allied rituals involving the Rath Yatra & Bahuda Yatra.
The State Police Headquarters issued a notification in this regard today.
According to the Odisha government sources, Priyadrashi will be in charge of police management during the ongoing Puri Rath Yatra with all the ritual, associated with the annual festivity.
Earlier in the morning, Puri District Collector and Superintendent of Police were transferred. Senior IAS Officer, Chanchal Rana was appointed as Puri District Collector, while Pinak Mishra takes charge as new SP of Puri.
Apart from it, as a disciplinary action folloing the harsh incident, DCP Bishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhi were soon suspended over allegations of negligence in duty.
Similarly, the government entrusted senior bureaucrat Aravind Agrawal as in-charge of overall supervision of the grand festival in Puri.
