Rath Yatra 2026: Energy Department Fully Prepared, Says Odisha Deputy CM K.V. Singh Deo

Bhubaneswar, July 5: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has said that the state's Energy Department has completed all necessary preparations to ensure uninterrupted power supply and public safety during the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra, with special attention given to Puri and other districts where the festival is observed.

Speaking on Sunday, Singh Deo said the department had conducted an extensive review of its readiness, including coordination meetings with Tata Power, to ensure smooth electricity management throughout the festival.

"The Rath Yatra is an annual event, and we have thoroughly reviewed the Electricity Department's preparations and arrangements. We have also held detailed discussions with Tata Power to ensure all systems are in place," he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister noted that since the Rath Yatra is celebrated across multiple districts in Odisha, comprehensive arrangements have been made statewide. Plans for staff mobilisation and deployment have also been finalised to address any operational requirements during the festivities.

"Rath Yatra is celebrated in several districts across the state, and we have ensured that all necessary arrangements are in place. Staff deployment has been planned wherever required," Singh Deo added.

Highlighting the department's focus on Puri, the host city of the world-famous festival, he said officials have completed a thorough inspection of the city ahead of the yatra, which begins on July 16.

"Our teams have inspected the entire city of Puri. We have addressed issues such as hanging electrical wires and ensured there are no leakages in underground cables. All preparations have been completed," he said.

Meanwhile, preparations for the Jagannath Rath Yatra are progressing on multiple fronts. The construction of the three grand wooden chariots has entered its final stage in Puri, with nearly 220 traditional artisans—including carpenters, assistants, and painters—working diligently to complete the structures ahead of the festival.

Using traditional hand tools, skilled craftsmen are carving intricate wooden panels and decorative motifs that reflect Odisha's rich cultural and artistic heritage. Working in coordinated teams, they are carefully assembling every component with precision to ensure the chariots are ready for the annual procession.
