Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: A rally on 'Say No to Plastic' was conducted by the students of Pokhariput DAV Public School. The purpose of this rally was to create awareness about the negative effects of using plastic amongst the shopkeepers and the people and thus bring about reduction in plastic waste.
The students distributed handmade cloth bags and paper bags in the shops of nearby areas and explained the positive aspects of using these biodegradable products, the students participated wholeheartedly and enjoyed doing this activity.
Waving banners that said, 'Save the earth and avoid polythene covers', holding placards that carried a green message, and raising slogans all along. It was aimed at encouraging stakeholders to avoid use of plastic covers and bags that cause irrevocable damage to the environment.
On a mission to reduce use of non-biodegradable plastic to the extent possible in the city, the students passed through the colonies and shopping complex of the Pokhariput area.
All Students and teachers of classes VI and VII took part in the rally and distributed pamphlets urging people not to use plastic material in any form. They explained to the passers-by the adverse effects of non-biodegradable material on animals, plants, marine species, and human beings.
The students displayed placards with slogans to create awareness on the ill- effects of using plastic, substitutes for plastic, reducing and recycling plastics. School Principal Bipin Kumar Sahu addressed the students and teachers. He explained the importance of a safe environment that is free of polythene and plastic.
