Aryapalli, May 28: The Aryapalli Police arrested a quack on Tuesday for impersonating a doctor and operating an unlicensed clinic in Aryapalli, Ganjam district.
The accused, identified as Prasanjeet Sarkar, is a resident of West Bengal and reportedly a Class 10 dropout. Despite lacking any formal medical qualifications, Sarkar had been unlawfully treating patients, prescribing medications, and running a clinic under the false pretense of being a licensed doctor.
According to Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Vidya Bharati, the police acted on a tip-off from a reliable source, alerting them to the unauthorized activities. "We received information about an individual without medical education treating patients and dispensing medicines while claiming to be a qualified doctor. Based on this tip-off, we launched a raid late last night and apprehended the person," IIC Bharati informed the media.
During the interrogation, Sarkar allegedly confessed to his deception, admitting that he had failed his matriculation exams and had been posing as a doctor to treat patients. The investigation led authorities to a clinic located at Gandhi Chhak, which was operating without any proper medical licenses.
Upon inspection, the police seized a large quantity of medicines and medical equipment from the premises. Sarkar was arrested on the spot.
Further investigation is inderway.
