New Delhi, December 16: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday voiced strong opposition to the Viksit Bharat Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025, also known as the VB-G Ram G Bill, in the Lok Sabha.

She argued that the bill would weaken the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), reducing the guaranteed 100 days of employment for rural workers.

Priyanka Gandhi emphasized that no legislation should be rushed through Parliament without proper consultation. She accused the government of pushing the bill due to "personal obsession" or "bias" and called for the bill to be withdrawn and reintroduced after detailed discussions. "This bill should be sent to the Standing Committee for a thorough examination," she said, highlighting that MGNREGA was integral to the welfare of rural workers.

The bill, introduced by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, aims to replace MGNREGA by guaranteeing 125 days of wage employment per rural household, up from the existing 100 days. It also focuses on creating rural assets through a coordinated development strategy.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the move, stating that the government's push to alter MGNREGA was part of a BJP conspiracy to undermine the scheme. He accused the government of erasing Gandhi’s legacy, and pledged that Congress would oppose the bill both in Parliament and on the streets.
