Koraput, June 4: Koraput district Collector V Keerti Vasan has ordered a formal investigation into the deaths of five patients at the Shaheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, amid allegations that faulty injections may have been responsible.

Addressing the media, Vasan announced the formation of an inquiry committee to examine the circumstances leading to the deaths. While medical negligence has not yet been confirmed, the probe will focus on claims that the injections administered may have triggered the fatalities.

The deceased included Bhagaban Paraja, Sukru Majhi, Rukuni Pentia (all three died in the ICU), Bati Khara, and Phulmati Majhi (who died in the general ward).

Among them were a cancer patient, an accident victim, and two individuals admitted after a stabbing incident. All were receiving treatment either in the surgical ICU or the ward at the time of death.

Family members of the victims have alleged that the patients were stable post-surgery but died shortly after receiving two injections reportedly administered by a night-duty staff member. According to their accounts, three patients in the ICU died within 15 minutes of receiving the injections.

The district administration has pledged a thorough investigation, promising accountability if any wrongdoing is established.
