Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: A police constable in Bhubaneswar has been suspended in connection with trafficking seized liquor and firecracker from the police malkhana.
The cop has been identified as Sidheswar Mohapatra, constable of the Begunia police station.
SP Khordha initiated the disciplinary action against the constable today, following a probe into illegal trafficking of malkhana goods from the police station.
Earlier on Saturday a home guard and a constable were caught red handed while they were allegedly trying to transport seized firecrackers, stored in the police malkhana. The liquor and firecrackers were seized and stored at Begunia police station in connection with two separate cases.
Carrying out a probe into the incident, the police arrested the accused homeguard Prakash Muduli and a driver on Sunday. Subsequently, the IIC of the Begunia police station was transferred immediately after the incident.
Worth mentioning, some villagers intercepted the vehicle and later detained the home guard and the constable when they were trying to shift the seized firecrackers and liquor. Both the home guard and the constable were handed over to the SDPO.
